Our 10 Module Structure

  • To start, we will answer these burning questions. What does being a manager entail? What is the training going to be like? Can I do this job? Should I be a manager?

  • We’ll introduce an emotional intelligence framework and reflect on the importance of self awareness and self regulation.

  • Going from a high-performing individual contributor to managing others can be a huge shift in how we think of ourselves. In this session we make space for personal vulnerability as we navigate feelings from perfectionism to imposter syndrome.

  • Grounded in emotional intelligence, we consider communication styles and being “others aware” in delivering crucial conversations and developing lasting professional relationships.

  • Gain clarity and alignment on the definitions and historical context of diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging and how it impacts career growth.

  • Generously giving and receiving effective feedback is a key part of being a great manager. We’ll share tips on how to do it well and how to navigate difficult conversations.

  • We’ll focus on how to help your reports set career goals, how to work within your organization’s performance management and promotions systems, and how to support your folks in reaching their goals.

  • In our second conversation on DEIB we’ll unpack how these concepts impact our personal lives, and how we manage others at work.

  • Regulating your time and energy as a manager can be difficult. We identify the demands on your time and energy as a manager, discuss the toll unseen and emotional labor take, and discuss how to handle these expectations while protecting your well-being.

  • We’ll start at the beginning, discussing how to have a first meeting with a new report, and then go through multiple scenarios a manager may face over the course of a year. This scenario heavy session is a participant favorite!

“Claudia and Heather are both very engaging and encouraging. Our team enjoyed the entire process, learned a lot along the way, and are more self-assured and effective managers as a result of the experience.”

Our 5 Module Structure

  • At the start, we will answer these essential questions. What does being a consultant mean? How do you balance your objectives with those of your clients? How does your company make money in these engagements?

  • We’ll discuss ways to face your fears and be brave while becoming a trusted advisor. Topics will include consulting vs. selling, holding clients accountable and when to say “I don’t know, and…”

  • This week we’ll discuss a strategic framework for the consulting process, discovery and data collection, and the role of influence in relationships.

  • We’ll dive into the heart of all consulting engagements: doing the work. We’ll talk about successful consulting practices and tools including contracts, expectations, agreements, and retros.

  • Finally we’ll learn how to identify and tailor communication to individual preferences, talk about ways to deliver effective feedback, how to know how much jargon is ok, and how to make difficult conversations easier.

“Overwhelmingly people feel supported, understood, and like their managers are effective in helping them grow. Your training really set them up for success!”

“I recently worked with Heather at a point where our company was coming off a major transition. Her insights and guidance not only helped me recalibrate my own role and begin crafting a long term path for the rest of the organization, but my team and I were able to immediately start using her tactical guidance to work through some of our most immediate challenges.”
